Dental Implants
Dental Implants: A Permanent Solution for Missing Teeth
At California Dental Specialty Group, we specialize in dental implants, the gold standard in tooth replacement technology. Dental implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth, restoring your smile’s appearance and the function and stability of your teeth. Whether you’re missing one tooth or several, dental implants can help you regain your confidence and enjoy a natural-looking, fully functional smile.
The Dental Implant Process
There are several steps in the dental implant process.
- The dental implant process begins with a thorough examination and consultation. The first consultation aims to determine if you’re a candidate for dental implant placement. A dental specialist will assess your oral health, jawbone density, and treatment goals. The maxillofacial surgeon will also want to discuss your overall health and any medical conditions that may affect the treatment regime.
- The dentist will develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. The plan will outline the number of implants, their placement, and the type of restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) to attach to the implants.
- The next step is the surgical placement of the dental implants into the jawbone. This procedure takes place using local anesthesia. General anesthesia is seldom used unless the oral surgeon plans to do a bone graft. During the surgery, the dentist will make an incision in the gum tissue to insert the implants into the bone. After placement, the implants are left to integrate with the surrounding bone tissue in a process called osseointegration. This will take several months.
- After the implants are placed, the gums are stitched. A temporary restoration may be placed over the implants to protect them while they heal. Over the next few months, the implants will fuse with the bone through osseointegration, providing a solid base for the final restoration.
- Once osseointegration is complete, a second minor surgery may be necessary to attach abutments to the implants. Abutments are small connectors that protrude through the gum line. Each abutment serves as an implant post for the final restorations.
- After the gums have healed around the abutments, the oral surgeon will make impressions of the mouth to fabricate the final restorations. These restorations are custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth. The new teeth are attached to the abutments, completing the dental implant procedure.
- Regular follow-up visits with your dentist are essential to monitor the healing process, ensure the stability of the implants, and maintain oral health.
The dental implant procedure may vary slightly depending on your needs and techniques used by the dental provider.

Dentures & Bridges
Restore your good looks and confidence by replacing damaged or missing teeth. Dentures and bridges are the perfect solution for many people battling with an incomplete set of teeth. By filling in gaps left by missing teeth, bridges and dentures distribute chewing forces evenly across the remaining teeth. Improved distribution reduces the risk of excessive wear and tear on neighboring teeth. They prevent misaligned teeth and preserve the facial structure. They improve your speech and chewing function. Dentures and bridges are cost-effective and durable.
Dentures
Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures. Complete dentures replace all teeth in an arch. Partial dentures replace multiple teeth while preserving existing natural teeth. Custom-made dentures are crafted to fit comfortably and securely so you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device that replaces one or several teeth by bridging the gap between adjacent teeth. Bridges consist of artificial teeth anchored by crowns placed on the natural teeth or dental implants adjacent to the gap. This restoration restores your smile and prevents the surrounding teeth from moving out of place.
